
Continuing Education Course: Neuroscience of Psychiatric Disorders

This entirely online course aims to discuss and detail the biological aspects behind neuropsychiatric disorders.
There will be 5 modules, with a total workload of 40 hours. All modules will be divided into 2 classes - Mondays and Tuesdays, 7pm to 10pm - and 1 lecture - Thursdays, 7pm to 9pm.
How much does it cost?
The investment is R$600.00 for the complete course, which includes 5 modules, a total workload of 40 hours, and official certification from UFMG.
10% of the places are reserved for scholarship recipients. To apply for a scholarship, simply follow the instructions on the "Scholarship Application Procedures" link on the FUNDEP registration page.

Modules
Module I: Neurodevelopmental Disorders
November 3rd, 4th and 6th
Lectures: MSc. Bruna Lopes Resende
Graduated in Biological Sciences from UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais), with a sandwich period at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech, USA); Master's degree in Physiology from UFMG, and PhD candidate in Physiology at the same institution. She has published several scientific articles and won numerous national and international awards, such as from the International Society for Neurochemistry , SURF from Caltech, and the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds for Cajal. She is part of the Neuropharmacology Laboratory, where she conducts research in the area of brain and behavioral development, focusing on neuroimmune interactions related to neurodevelopmental processes.
Speaker: Dr. Bruno Rezende de Souza
Graduated in Biological Sciences from PUC-MG; Master's and PhD in Biochemical and Molecular Pharmacology from UFMG, with an internship at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (Canada). Completed postdoctoral studies in Mental Health at UFMG, in neurodevelopment at the University of Toronto (Canada), and at SickKids Hospital (Canada). Associate Professor at UFMG. Coordinated the Specialization in Neurosciences and was president of the Canada-Brazil Alumni Network. Coordinator of the 1st and 2nd Neuroscience Conferences at UFMG and Coordinator of NARI (Center for Support of International Relations) at ICB. Coordinates the projects "NeuroCine", "Neurotalk" and "UFMG Brain Week". Has published dozens of scientific articles and engages in science outreach. Researcher in the area of Neurosciences, with an emphasis on Neurodevelopment, Stress and Behavior.
Module II: Depression and Bipolar Disorder
November 10, 11 and 13
Classes: MSc. Gabriella Luciana de Oliveira
Graduated in Biomedicine from the University Center of Formiga (Unifor-MG); specialist and master in Pharmacology from UFMG, and doctoral candidate at the same institution. She worked as a tutor in the UFMG's Distance Learning Pharmacology Specialization program. She has published scientific articles and won several national awards, such as from the Federation of Experimental Biology Societies (FeSBE) and the Brazilian Society of Physiology (SBFis). She is part of the Neuropharmacology Laboratory, researching neuroinflammation, neuroplasticity, and psychostimulants.
Speaker: Dr. Rodrigo Nicolatto
A graduate in Medicine from UFJF, he completed his medical residency in Psychiatry at the Hospital das Clínicas of UFMG. He holds a specialization in Neuroscience, Behavior, and Psychopathology from PUC-Paraná, a master's degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from UFMG, and a doctorate in Biochemical and Molecular Pharmacology from the same institution. A professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UFMG, he has published dozens of scientific articles and is currently the President of the Minas Gerais Psychiatric Association. Furthermore, he is a full member of the Minas Gerais Academy of Medicine and coordinator of the General Pharmacology and Psychopharmacology Commission of the Brazilian Psychiatric Association.
Module III: Anxiety Disorders
November 17, 18 and 19
Classes: MSc. Anna Paula Marcal
Graduated in Biomedicine from FUMEC University. Master's degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from UFMG. PhD candidate at the same institution, she is part of the Neuropsychopharmacology laboratory. She has published several scientific articles and won national and international awards, such as from the International Cannabinoid Research Society . She is qualified in the area of clinical analysis by the University Hospital of Medical Sciences. Her research focuses on the relationship between compulsive behaviors and substance abuse.
Speaker: Dr. Mônica Maximino
Holds a Bachelor's degree in Biomedicine from UFPA (Federal University of Pará), a Master's degree and a PhD in Neuroscience and Cell Biology from UFPA. Currently a Professor at the State University of Pará and a permanent faculty member of the PPG BIONORTE (Biodiversity and Biotechnology Network of the Legal Amazon). She is a member of the Brazilian Society for Neuroscience and Behavior, the International Brain Research Organization, and the Zebrafish Neuroscience Research Consortium. She has published dozens of scientific articles. She has experience in neuropsychopharmacological processes of stress and trauma. Currently, she dedicates herself to the study of the biological bases of behavior in topics related to psychiatric disorders (anxiety, stress, panic).
Module IV: Disorders of Aging
November 24, 25 and 27
Classes: Luíza Reis Amaral Fonseca
Graduated in Nutrition from UFMG; specialist in Neuroscience from UFMG, and currently pursuing a Master's degree in Physiology at the same institution. She has published a scientific article and is a member of the Physiological Circuits Laboratory, where she conducts research focusing on the brain-gut axis, with an interest in vagal modulation in behavior.
Speaker: Dr. Luciene Bruno Vieira
Graduated in Pharmacy from UFMG; holds a master's and doctorate in Physiology and Pharmacology from UFMG. Completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Calgary (Canada). Associate Professor at UFMG and has published dozens of scientific articles. Her research focuses on central mechanisms involving excitotoxicity in diseases such as Alzheimer's and Huntington's, investigations of central mechanisms of action of animal toxins, as well as mechanisms involving glutamatergic transmission in the regulation of body weight and energy metabolism.
Module V: Schizophrenia
June 21, 22 and 24
Lectures: MSc. Eduarda Maria Silva de Souza
She holds a degree in Biological Sciences from UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais); a master's degree in Physiology from the same institution. She is a member of the Neurodevelopment and Evolution Laboratory, where she conducts research focusing on the role of dopamine in the development of neural circuits and behavior.
Speaker: Dr. João Vinícius Salgado
Graduated in Medicine from UFMG; Master's degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from UFMG; PhD in Neuroscience from Université Louis Pasteur de Strasbourg I and in Psychobiology from USP. Professor at UFMG, he has published dozens of scientific articles and is a Preceptor of the Medical Residency in Psychiatry at the Raul Soares Institute-FHEMIG. He conducts research in the areas of neuroscience and psychiatry, mainly in cognition, schizophrenia, experimental models, the cannabinoid system, inflammatory and immunological aspects in schizophrenia, neuropsychology, and clinical psychiatry.
